PYRITE IN HISTORY
Pyrite is named after the Greek word for fire, "Pyr" because it sparks when struck by steel. It is also often called "Fools Gold" because it so resembles the precious metal. Pyrite has a shiny, METALLIC and occasionally iridescent luster.
It comes in pale, BRASSY, sometimes GRAYISH shades of muted yellow and/or grey. Pyrite has been used in ornamental and jewelry for millennia worldwide. The Incas made it into mirrors, some North American tribes used it for amulets, and in Victorian England - pyrite jewelry was very popular!
IRON PYRITE: More commonly known as Fool's Gold... is found throughout the world in gold and silver deposits! The COLOUR of which is NOT gold! Fool's Gold/Pyrite is composed entirely of IRON SULFIDE - commonly known as IRON PYRITE!
